Wanna know what I love to see? A curvy girl who’s still rocking it with her fashion. Nobody is focusing on her midsection! That’s what I want for myself! Fashion confidence! So what do I not love? Taking five hours to find the perfect outfit only to look in the mirror and find that it doesn’t look so perfect because of this ugly muffin top sitting in front of me!
So I got to thinking… About a solution!
Most women are self-conscious about something, especially on their bodies. For me, I don’t like the fact that I still have this not-so-cute kangaroo pouch after giving birth to my son four months ago. I know what I’m supposed to do to get rid of this muffin top but what about my body now, while I wait? I would still like to look and feel confident in my clothes!
The Goal for You?
I’m going to share several clothing outfit ideas and practical tips that are great with hiding belly fat! And I’ll share a bit of encouragement to help you feel and look amazing no matter what!
You know, there are a lot of women just like me who don’t know how to cover up the extra love handles or protruding tummy. You don’t have to worry though, I did all the hard work(research) for you! So let’s get to the meat and potatoes of this thing!
What to wear if you have a belly?
- High-rise under and Correct bra
The perfect pair of undergarments can go a long way! Your bra should give you great support and hold your babies up properly. Your breast shouldn’t be down near your belly because it will make your tummy look bigger. High-rise under will help to pull in your tummy.
- High-rise or Mid-rise Jeans, pants or leggings
The rise portion of the jeans will help to tuck in the bottom half of your belly, creating an illusion of a smaller midsection.
- High-rise pantyhose
This would have the same effect as if wearing high-rise jeans or a body shaper. These pantyhose will help to hide your muffin top.
- Cardigan, jacket or blazer
Layering will help to take the focus away from your midsection and slightly covering it up.
- Loose blouse, tunic or T-shirt
I love a loose blouse because it’s super comfortable and it also looks fashionable! These types of tops will not hug your body so no one can see your midsection.
- Oversized Shirt
Besides this being really cozy, it does the same as a loose top but better! Just don’t get them too big and oversized or it might look a little slouchy!
- Vertical Stripes
Which is better, Vertical vs Horizontal stripes? The Vertical patterns win because it makes you look slimmer and taller.
- Maxi or Midi Dress
You can’t go wrong with a cute Maxi dress! When you put it on, you will automatically see why it’s every woman’s favorite and why it does so well with making your body look amazing!
Jewelry or scarves shifts the focus away from your belly and onto that accessory.
- Body Shaper
We all know what a body shaper does but just in case you don’t know, it pulls everything together. Making your body shape look perfect! Examples of good ones to use would be Spanx or Gotoly Body Shaper.
Flared or Pencil skirts with a bit of high-rise or thick band will be your best friend. Another tip is to try them in floral or bright colors and patterns and that muffin top won’t be so visible!
- One-Color Tops
A one-color top can be paired with high-rise pants or skirt will be the perfect outfit for going out and looking flawless!
- Drap or Peplum Tops
All of the different patterns and asymmetrical shapes will keep the focus everywhere but on the problem area.
- Dark Colors
Dark colors play tricks with the eyes and make you look slimmer.
- Square or V-neck Shirt
These particularly shaped neck shirts will draw attention to your neck and chest. Perfect place to put a statement necklace and walk with confidence.
- Empire waist outfit
This option is a hit or a miss. You will honestly have to play around with this ideal outfit. Many have mixed feelings about this but I like to wear dresses that have the Empire waist effect!
What NOT to wear?
Now that you know what you can wear to help make your shape look a little better with your clothing, there are a few things to avoid when working with your fashion pieces. These options will either hug your too tight and making everything stand out, draw attention to the midsection(which is what you don’t want) or make your tummy look bigger depending on the patterns or colors you choose to wear.
- Body con outfits
- Low rise jeans
- Outfits with big belt buckles
- Don’t tuck in your tops
- No horizontal patterns
- Avoid satin or silky fabrics
